The Walking Dead will now have a sister show because AMC and creator Robert Kirkman are beginning to work on a spin-off series for the popular show slated to debut in 2015…
Following the success of three seasons of The Walking Dead, AMC has decided to begin production on a new spin-off series set to land on the cable networking in 2015.
According to a press release from the network, creator Robert Kirkman along with executive producers Gale Anne Hurd and David Alpert have signed on to start work on a new series that will take place in a completely separate corner of The Walking Dead universe separate from the survivors led by Rick Grimes.
The new series will be a companion to The Walking Dead and will not be a spin-off based on any of Kirkman’s comics like the current show is currently based on.
“After 10 years of writing the comic book series and being so close to the debut of our fourth, and in my opinion, best season of the TV series, I couldn’t be more thrilled about getting the chance to create a new corner of The Walking Dead universe,” Kirkman said in the release. “The opportunity to make a show that isn’t tethered by the events of the comic book, and is truly a blank page, has set my creativity racing.”
AMC is apparently cashing in on a couple of its most popular series currently with spin-offs planned in the next year. They most recently announced that a new show ‘Better Call Saul’ would start production soon as a spin-off of the hugely popular Breaking Bad series. Now it seems The Walking Dead will join them as well.
The series will begin production in 2014 with the show scheduled to launch in 2015.
As for the current Walking Dead season, that picks up on AMC on Sunday night October 13 at 9pm ET/PT.
