‘The Walking Dead’ season 6 just got a major teaser because show runner Scott Gimple says Negan might show up before the end of the year….
When it comes to iconic characters in ‘The Walking Dead’ there are more than a few, but for the villains in the original comic book series the conversation usually starts and stops with The Governor and a man named Negan.
Now viewers of ‘The Walking Dead’ show on AMC are very familiar with The Governor and his reign of terror that cost numerous survivors their lives including both Andrea and Hershel as well as leading to the downfall of the prison.
But as evil as The Governor was in both the comics and the series, he doesn’t hold a candle to a barbed-wired baseball bat wielding sociopath named Negan.
Without given too much away — Negan was a character who first appeared in issue No. 100 of ‘The Walking Dead’ comic book series as the leader of a group known as ‘The Saviors’. Negan’s group were seen as the ‘protectors’ over a series of survivalist sects in the same area around Virginia and Washington D.C. where the Alexandria safe zone exists. Negan himself was a brutal, unrelenting warmonger who ruled with an iron fist and a very dirty mouth.
Let’s put it this way — comic book readers have been waiting for a long time to see Negan come to life on the television series and it looks like it might happen before season 6 is over.
“It’s absolutely a possibility,” show runner Scott Gimple said about Negan appearing this year. “And when I say it’s a possibility, we have a plan in place, but there’s a couple variables for that plan that we’re deciding about. It really depends on a few factors as we move into setting up the last bit of the season story-wise.”
Negan wreaks havoc like no other character in the history of ‘The Walking Dead’ comic book and now we know that he will definitely be showing up on the TV series, it’s just a matter of when it will happen.
Negan serves as a major antagonist for a huge chunk of the comic book series so it will be curious to see how that role will be adapted for TV. Casting will also be scrutinized relentlessly because of Negan’s signature look and attitude that virtually jumped off the page in Robert Kirkman’s comic book series.
Oh and don’t forget ‘Lucille’ — Negan’s barbed-wire baseball bat — will surely make an appearance as well.
‘The Walking Dead’ returns to AMC on Sunday night, October 11.
