The upcoming Spider-Man spinoff ‘Venom’ has just landed an A-list star with Tom Hardy taking on the lead role…
The Spider-Man universe is finally expanding.
The long rumored ‘Venom’ movie based on one of the webslinger’s greatest villains is set for release on October 5, 2018 and now the film has a leading man.
Tom Hardy — best known for his work in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’, ‘The Revenant’ and his recent turn on television in ‘Taboo’ — is attached to play Eddie Brock in the new adaptation of ‘Venom’ from Sony Pictures.

The ‘Venom’ movie will be directed by Ruben Fleischer, who is best known for his work on the horror-comedy film ‘Zombieland’ with production on the movie picking up this summer.
Venom is considered one of the most iconic villains in Spider-Man history after first being introduced in 1988. In the origin story, Spider-Man returns from an alien world with a new black costume but what he doesn’t know is that the outfit is actually a living, alien symbiote that attaches itself to a host while giving them incredible powers and a venomous dark side. Once Spider-Man rids himself of the alien costume, the creature finds disgruntled photographer Eddie Brock as a new host before the two of them team up for a reign of terror aimed directly at the webslinger.
Venom has taken on many different roles over the years as part of the Spider-Man universe with several characters wearing the iconic alien outfit but it appears this movie will go back to the beginning with Hardy portraying Eddie Brock in the film. Previously, Topher Grace portrayed Eddie Brock/Venom in ‘Spider-Man 3’ but most of us would prefer to pretend that never happened.
Of course, Hardy is no stranger to comic book films after portraying Bane in ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ opposite Christian Bale.
Production will kick off soon with the release date already announced for October 2018.
