True Blood will finish its run on HBO after one final season that will debut in 2014…
After seven seasons of vampires, werewolves and fairies (oh my), True Blood will come to an end with season 7 debuting in 2014.
HBO announced the news via press release on Tuesday confirmed that the upcoming season will be the show’s last on the network.
“True Blood has been nothing short of a defining show for HBO,” Michael Lombardo, HBO president said in the press release. “Alan Ball took the books by Charlaine Harris, assembled a brilliant cast led by the magnificent Anna Paquin in the role of Sookie Stackhouse, and crafted a show that has taken its many devoted fans on an unforgettable journey.
“Alan passed the baton to Brian Buckner, who led our fantastic writers and crew in crafting a spectacular sixth season, and he will lead us through the seventh and final season of this amazing show. Together with its legions of fans, it will be hard to say goodbye to the residents of Bon Temps, but I look forward to what promises to be a fantastic final chapter of this incredible show.”
True Blood has continued to be a ratings success for the pay-cable station, although recent seasons have dipped slightly over the early efforts in the first few years.
The Emmy winning drama was renewed for season 7 earlier this year with speculation running rampant that it could be the show’s final season on air.
Now it has been confirmed that Sookie, Bill and the rest of the Bon Temps gang will stick around for one more season before the show wraps for good.
Season 7 of True Blood is expected to debut in the summer of 2014.
