The first look at “Kraven the Hunter” has arrived with Aaron Taylor-Johnson taking a heroic spin on the classic Spider-Man villain in the upcoming film…
In the comic books, Kraven the Hunter was exactly as his name teased — he was the ultimate predator seeking out prey and he considered Spider-Man as the only animal that ever eluded him. The upcoming film of the same name features Aaron Taylor-Johnson in the lead role and he’s clearly got a much different objective, at least based on the first trailer.
“Kraven the Hunter” opens in October and the latest “Spider-Man” spinoff film — following two “Venom” movies and “Morbius the Vampire” — follows a similar formula that erases a villainous past in favor of creating a new anti-hero that doesn’t actually interact with our favorite neighborhood webslinger.
In this version of the story, Sergei Kravinoff (Taylor-Johnson) is the son of a powerful crime figure played by Russell Crowe, who intends to raise his children to be the ultimate hunters without an ounce of weakness in them. When Sergei fails to pull the trigger during an exotic game hunt, which leads him to being mauled by a lion, his father leaves him for dead.
Thankfully, Sergei ends up with super powers thanks to the lion dripping its own blood into an open wound — don’t try to make sense of this — and he suddenly takes on all new abilities, which apparently include transforming him into Dr. Doolittle because he can communicate with animals. Oh and he actually bites off someone’s face during one action sequence as well!
Sure, why not.
Once he takes on the new mantle as Kraven the Hunter, he seeks to end his father’s criminal reign where he kills for profit and takes whatever he wants. At least that seems like the basic plot of the movie.
For now, check out the new trailer for “Kraven the Hunter” and get ready for the film to be unleashed in theaters in October.
