The new “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” trailer features much deeper tie-ins to the original films with some classic characters returning for this one….
If the first look at “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” felt a little nostalgic but didn’t really deliver the ties that bind this sequel to the original films, the new trailer should definitely satisfy.
Directed by Jason Reitman — son of “Ghostbusters” and “Ghostbusters 2” director Ivan Reitman — the new updated film features Egon Spengler’s family moving into a creepy, old farmhouse after they are left penniless and forced to move away from their previous home.
Of course Egon was played by the late great Harold Ramis and it’s evident this new film is definitely paying homage to him with the character’s family serving as the lead roles in the movie.
Judging by the new trailer it appears Egon moved into this farmhouse to investigate a potential hot zone for supernatural activity but sadly he may have passed away before he was able to truly understand what was happening. Now his family has moved into the same house with his daughter and his grandchildren discovering what exactly he left behind.
The new trailer features the return of Annie Potts as “Ghostbusters” secretary Janine Melnitz and she’s officially the first character from the original films to appear in the trailers for the updated sequel.
But that’s not all…
The closing seconds of the trailer feature a call to a number looking for help and a familiar voice belonging to Dan Aykroyd aka Ray Stantz answering the phone. There’s also a brief look a glowing neon sign saying “occult books,” which is obviously reference to Ray’s Occult — the bookstore he owned in “Ghostbusters 2.”
Check out the new trailer and get ready for “Ghostbusters: Afterlife” when its released on November 11.
