The first look at “The Strangers: Chapter 1” has arrived with a trailer that features some familiar scares that are nearly identical to the original movie…
“The Strangers: Chapter 1” will serve as the first part of a new trilogy of films centered around the iconic original movie from 2008 that featured a couple being attacked by a group of masked intruders who eventually reveal that their only motive was “because you were home.”
This time around the couple played by “Riverdale” star Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez, who end up staying in an isolated cabin after their car breaks down in a small town in the middle of nowhere. Before long, three masked assailants show up to torture and attack them with bloody results.
Here’s the official synopsis for “The Strangers: Chapter 1.”
“After their car breaks down in an eerie small town, a young couple (Madelaine Petsch and Froy Gutierrez) are forced to spend the night in a remote cabin. Panic ensues as they are terrorized by three masked strangers who strike with no mercy and seemingly no motive.”
The first trailer feels very familiar with some of the same beats from the original film, which may just be a way to entice viewers to check out the new film that drops in theaters on May 17. This latest film is the first of a planned trilogy so it’s likely that as much as this trailer looks like a shot-for-shot remake of the original, there are surely enough differences that will eventually lead to a sequel.
The film is directed by Renny Harlin, who famously helmed “Nightmare on Elm Street 4: The Dream Master” as well as “Die Hard 2” and “Deep Blue Sea.”
