This Sunday night marks the return of “The Walking Dead” on AMC and the show has already been renewed for next season…
In the least surprising news of the day, AMC has renewed “The Walking Dead’ for season 6 at the network just days before season 5 launches. The show has been a breakout hit for the past few years with ratings climbing for each and every season with numbers rivaling network television and pulling in bigger audiences than events like the Olympics.
With “The Walking Dead” about to return for season 5 this Sunday night on AMC, the network wasted no time in officially announcing on Tuesday that the show would stick around for season 6 as well.
“We could not be more excited for October 12th as we share new episodes of The Walking Dead with fans around the globe,” AMC President Charlie Collier said in a press release. “In advance of Sunday’s season five premiere, AMC proudly confirms a sixth season order of this extraordinary series. Thank you to Robert Kirkman, Scott Gimple, the terrific executive producers, and the entire team who brings this compelling world and these rich characters to life. There’s plenty more Dead ahead thanks to their impressive, collective effort.”
Season 6 of “The Walking Dead” will also be joined next year by “The Walking Dead” spinoff show that’s currently in pre-production with a 2015 release date expected.
“The Walking Dead” season 5 will debut this Sunday night at 9pm ET on AMC.
