Following a time-bending appearance in ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’, both Patrick Stewart and Ian McKellen will bow out of the upcoming sequel ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’…
It seems an older Professor X and Magneto won’t be needed for the upcoming ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ film as the two veteran actors are not expected to appear in the film.
Stewart told Larry King Now that the new film will stay focused on the younger version of the characters — played by James McAvoy and Michael Fassbender — and neither he or McKellen are expected to appear.
“I was learning quite a lot more about it last night and it is going to be looking very much at the earlier lives of all our characters,” Stewart said. “And so I don’t think we’ll be making an appearance.”
The last film — ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ — showcased both Stewart and McKellen along with McAvoy and Fassbender due to the time travel plot in the story. Stewart and McKellen has both appeared in four of the previous films including ‘X-Men’, ‘X2’ as well as ‘X-Men: The Last Stand’ before doing ‘X-Men: Days of Future Past’ in 2014.
It appears for the latest movie ‘X-Men: Apocalypse’ there was no need to have both sets of actors on board so only McAvoy and Fassbender will be on screen this time.
As far as future ‘X-Men’ movies, the door is still open for Stewart and McKellen to return.
