Dan Stevens — best known for his role on Downton Abbey — has been cast as David Haller in the upcoming X-Men spinoff TV series Legion on FX.
The show based on the comic book character of the same name follows Haller (Stevens) through a difficult life where he’s haunted by visions and branded a schizophrenic for most of his life but while institutionalized, he realizes that the strange things that keep running through his head might not be from his fractured psyche but instead the truth after discovering that he’s actually Charles Xavier’s son.
Stevens will lead the show as the man who will become Legion while Aubrey Plaza (Parks and Recreation) has been cast as David’s friend Lenny, who becomes a sidekick to the powerful mutant.
Meanwhile, Jean Smart (Fargo) has also joined the show playing a psychiatrist named Melanie. Smart becomes the second cast member from Fargo season 2 to join the show alongside Rachel Keller, who was cast as the female lead in Legion a couple of weeks ago.
Both actresses worked with Fargo show runner Noah Hawley, who also happens to be the brains behind Legion as well.
