Director Zack Snyder says that Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice is really a precursor to the Justice League movie but the focus remains on the two main characters…

There is a lot of excitement ahead of the March 25 release date for Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice, but there’s also some concern amongst fans that maybe director Zack Snyder is trying to do too much with one movie.
What started out as the first feature film putting both Batman and Superman in the same universe has now expected with Wonder Woman being added as well as Lex Luthor, Aquaman, Doomsday and a whole lot more judging by the trailers that have landed online.
There is a rhyme and a reason why all of this is happening in the movie according to Snyder, who doesn’t look at Batman V. Superman so much as a sequel to 2013’s Man of Steel but instead a prequel to his upcoming Justice League movie due out in 2017.
“The idea is that it’s in a lot of ways it’s a prequel to Justice League,” Snyder said in a recent interview. “We knew now that we’ve created a world where Batman, where Superman exists and then once we had this notion that if we now know that Batman and Superman exist in the same universe, that just means there’s a floodgate of DC characters just waiting to come roaring into the story.”
There will be a slew of cameos in Batman V. Superman including Jason Momoa’s first appearance playing Aquaman, but Snyder promises that the guest appearances by future members of the Justice League won’t take away from the primary focus at hand.
Snyder says the upcoming movie is very much about Batman and Superman and while some focus will be given to Gal Gadot’s debut as Wonder Woman, the story stays aimed at the two main characters throughout.
“As far as the other Justice League characters go, it’s a really small role,” Snyder said. “There’s a whisper that they exist except for Wonder Woman, we see her pretty well.
“The movie is about Batman and Superman and we really do take time with them and the why of them and what they stand for and their believes and them as characters. That’s pretty much the why of the movie. It does begin the conversation that these guys are out there.”
So there you have it.
It looks like Batman and Superman will get the bulk of the attention in Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice but this upcoming movie will set the stage for an epic Justice League movie that actually begins filming soon.
There have also been rumors that the hint of a big bad for Justice League will be featured in Batman V. Superman — a Darkseid rumor at that — so keep your eyes peeled during the movie to see if another iconic DC villain will make a brief appearance to truly tease what’s coming next in the DC Cinematic Universe.
