For 10 seasons, Tom Welling portrayed Clark Kent aka Superman on Smallville and while he hasn’t been asked it sounds like he’s open to the idea of reprising the role for Supergirl…
Ever since Supergirl launched last fall there have been hints that at some point the Man of Steel will eventually make an appearance on the show alongside his cousin currently flying over the skies in National City.
Thus far, the show has only mentioned Superman or shown flashes of his appearances, but as of yet, no actual person has been cast in the role.
One of the most logical choices for the series would be Tom Welling — who played Clark Kent/Superman for 10 seasons as the lead actor on Smallville — and more than a few fans have thought the same ever since Supergirl became a series last year.
For his part, Welling hasn’t been asked to reprise his most famous role but from the sound of things, he’s open to the idea and has definitely watched what’s been happening on Supergirl thus far.
“I’ve gotten a lot of questions about that and the funny thing is, I’ve never been asked,” Welling revealed recently.
“They’ve never asked me, so we’ll see. It’s a great show. I’ve seen it.”
Welling joked that he might need some extra time to get ready if the show wanted to put him back in those famous Superman tights for an appearance on the show, but he seemed receptive to the idea if it ever happened.
As far as TV goes, there hasn’t been a longer running or more widely recognized Superman than Welling so seeing him reprise that role for Supergirl would definitely be a big moment for the series.
Whether or not it happens, remains to be seen but at least Welling appears open to the idea of it happening!
