It looks like The Flash season 3 will look a lot different after Grant Gustin confirmed the start of the Flashpoint storyline…
At the end of The Flash season 2, Barry Allen finally decided that he had seen enough death in his own family and that he needed to travel back in time to rescue his mother from the fate that she suffered at the hands of Eobard Thawne aka The Reverse Flash when he was still a child.
Nora Allen’s death set in motion a chain of events that eventually led to Barry gaining his powers and becoming The Flash, but what happens now that he stopped her from dying?
It looks like all those questions will be answered when The Flash officially introduces the Flashpoint storyline in season 3.
The Flash star Grant Gustin confirmed the news on Twitter while also revealing the title of the first episode for season 3.

For those not aware of the original Flashpoint storyline — it was written by DC stalwart Geoff Johns and it helped launch the New 52 in the DC Universe back in 2011.
In the original story, Barry Allen travels back in time to stop the murder of his mother Nora but by allowing her to live, he accidentally sets off a reaction that drastically alters the future for everyone in the DC Universe. In the new world, Barry Allen is no longer the Flash, Bruce Wayne dies and his father Thomas Wayne instead becomes Batman, Aquaman and Wonder Woman are at war with each other in a conquest to conquer the world and the Justice League no longer exists.
There was also an excellent animated film based on the story called Justice League: The Flaspoint Paradox that was released in 2013.
Now as Gustin mentioned in his post, The Flash will take its own spin on the Flashpoint story but there’s little doubt that the similarities at least in a bigger picture will still be the same. The Flash resets the timeline by saving his mother and when season 3 kicks off, there’s no telling what Central City will look like.
Gustin also said that filming for season 3 of The Flash will begin in two weeks with the show set to debut on the CW on Tuesday, October 4 at 8pm ET.
