Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson will be joining the DC Universe after all but he’s not going to be a hero as first speculated….
For several months now, action star Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson has teased that he’s going to join the DC Universe as a character in an upcoming movie and it wasn’t long ago that he was all but confirming that he was going to play Shazam.
It seems Johnson has shifted gears now, however, after announcing on Wednesday that he would be playing Shazam’s arch nemesis Black Adam instead.

The new film will be produced by New Line and stars Johnson as the main antagonist in the movie. What we don’t know yet is who will be playing Shazam or his human alter ego Billy Batson.
At least we now konw that Johnson is officially joining the DC Universe of films and will be playing a major character in the upcoming Shazam movie. For those not in the know, here’s the description of Black Adam from DC:
“A super-villain and sometimes anti-hero originally written as the evil counterpart to Captain Marvel, an ancient Egyptian prince who was given incredible powers by the wizard Shazam and survived into the modern era”
There’s no word yet on when filming will begin on Shazam but judging by Johnson’s announcement, it’s likely going to start soon.
