Following a long and arduous search that included preliminary talks with Joaquin Phoenix for the role, it appears Marvel has finally chosen Benedict Cumberbatch to join the ranks to play Doctor Strange in the upcoming movie directed by Scott Derrickson.
Deadline first reported the news on Monday.
While no deal is done just yet it appears negotiations are underway and all signs point towards Cumberbatch joining the Marvel family.
The British actor has become quite the hot commodity over the last few years with several major roles coming his way. Now it looks like he’ll play Doctor Strange in the upcoming movie of the same name, which injects him into any number of other Marvel projects not the least of which is likely The Avengers 3.
