The upcoming ‘Birds of Prey’ movie from DC and Warner Bros has just found its villain as Ewan McGregor will play an infamous Batman foe…
The ‘Birds of Prey’ now have a villain to take on when the feature film gets into production.
Ewan McGregor — best known for his roles in the ‘Star Wars’ prequels as well as a recent run on television’s ‘Fargo’ — is expected to join the cast to play the Black Mask, a famous Batman villain from the comic books.
‘Birds of Prey’ focuses around a female group of superheroes including Margot Robbie reprising her role as Harley Quinn after first playing the character in ‘Suicide Squad’. She’ll be joined by Mary Elizabeth Winstead playing Huntress with Jurnee Smollett-Bell portraying Black Canary and Rosie Perez playing Officer Renee Montoya.
In the comics, the Black Mask (real name Roman Sionis) is a notorious Gotham crime lord who prefers to wear any number of masks or disguises to hide his face and takes perverse pleasure in torturing his victims. Before he was the Black Mask, Sionis was raised by a wealthy family in Gotham that owned a lucrative cosmetics company that he later took over after he killed his parents. Sionis then ran that business into the ground when he gambled on a new face makeup that ended up disfiguring thousands of women who used the product.
Broke and ashamed of his failures, Sionis decided to start a criminal empire instead as the villainous Black Mask while running his own gang called the False Face Society.
McGregor will portray Black Mask in the upcoming movie with ‘Birds of Prey’ currently slated to land in theaters on February 7, 2020.
