Bran Stark and Hodor Won’t Appear in ‘Game of Thrones’ Season 5

While the producers of ‘Game of Thrones’ have insisted catching up to George R.R. Martin’s source material won’t slow them down, it’s apparently enough to force them to write out at least two characters for season 5….

The concern for many ‘Game of Thrones’ fans for the past couple of seasons is the rapid fire way the show is catching up to the original source material — ‘A Song of Fire and Ice’ novels — written by series creator George R.R. Martin. Show runners David Benioff and Dan Weiss have insisted that they have the story material to push forward, even if Martin doesn’t get done in time for the show to reach its conclusion.

Martin is currently working on book No. 6 out of seven total books in the series. The sixth book titled ‘The Winds of Winter’ isn’t expected to be released until sometime in 2015.

Well despite their objections to the contrary, it appears a few major characters won’t even show up in season 5 of ‘Game of Thrones’ because their story has come to an end of what’s available in Martin’s source material.

Kristian Nairn, who plays gentle giant Hodor, spoke to an Australian outlet this week while plugging his upcoming DJ gigs where he’ll be playing music under the guise of ‘Rave of Thrones’ — a ‘Game of Thrones’ inspired dance experience — and he revealed that he’s going to have plenty of time to tour this year because he’s not even doing the show this season.

“We have a season off and we have a year’s hiatus, solely because I imagine our storyline is up to the end of the books,” Nairn stated. “So, I get my year off now to do Rave of Thrones and gallivant all over the world.”

Nairn being out of commission also means we probably won’t see Isaac Hempstead-Wright, who plays Bran Stark or Ellie Kendrick, who plays Meera Reed in the show. The trio were on a mission north of The Wall when season 4 ended, but it appears we’ll have to wait until at least season 6 to find out what was going on in that mystical place with children who throw balls of light and kill dancing skeletons returning from the grave.

‘Game of Thrones’ season 5 will debut on HBO in spring 2015.
