DC is finally starting to get aggressive as they try to play catch up to Marvel’s dominance in the movie realm…
DC is deep into production on the film ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ with director Zack Snyder leading the way alongside stars Ben Affleck, Henry Cavill and Gal Gadot. It’s been rumored for some time now that following the filming of that movie, the crew would then move immediately into a planned ‘Justice League’ movie bringing all of the characters back together again.
Now it seems as if DC is getting very aggressive with their movie making plans over the next five years after announcing a slate of dates where they plan on releasing films all the way through 2020. While no titles were announced, the dates show DC’s ambitious plans for films coming out over the next five years. Check out the dates below:
Aug. 5, 2016: Untitled DC Film
June 23, 2017: Untitled DC Film
Nov. 17, 2017: Untitled DC Film
March 23, 2018: Untitled DC Film
July 27, 2018: Untitled DC Film
April 5, 2019: Untitled DC Film
June 14, 2019: Untitled DC Film
April 3, 2020: Untitled DC Film
June 19, 2020: Untitled DC Film
It was just announced on Wednesday that ‘Batman V. Superman: Dawn of Justice’ was getting bumped up to March 25, 2016 after originally being slated to come out on May 6, 2016. That date happened to coincide with Marvel’s ‘Captain America 3’ and rather than go head-to-head with a proven box office smash, Warner Bros and DC opted to move their date up for a release six weeks earlier.
As far as the other dates go, a ‘Justice League’ movie will occupy one of those slots without a doubt. If the film does get made back to back with ‘Batman V. Superman’ then it could easily grab a date in 2017 or 2018 depending on how quickly DC wants to roll out their big team-up movie to go against Marvel’s franchise ‘The Avengers’.
In addition, a Wonder Woman solo film will almost certainly happen with Gal Gadot signed on for multiple pictures already. Another ‘Man of Steel’ film, which would be a direct sequel to the original movie, could also be in the works. DC will introduce several other characters in ‘Batman V. Superman’ including Aquaman and Cyborg with rumors also swirling that Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson may play Shazam as well.
There have also been talks about a possible film featuring The Flash and Green Lantern together in one movie, although it’s unclear if that will actually be the plan to introduce those characters after the ‘Justice League’ movie.
All told, there are 9 dates for DC to fill in the next five years so expect plenty of news to start rolling out as these movies start finding titles, directors and writers.
