As Man of Steel 2, currently being called Batman vs. Superman, gets closer and closer to production more names are popping up as possible cast members and the latest is a former Game of Thrones actor…
Game of Thrones fans best remember Jason Momoa as hulking Dothraki king Khal Drogo from season one of the series, but now it appears he may be close to joining the cast of the upcoming Man of Steel sequel currently being called ‘Batman vs. Superman‘.
The news comes courtesy of The Hollywood Reporter:
Jason Momoa is in negotiations to join the cast of the untitled Batman-Superman movie being made by Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment. It’s unclear whom Momoa will play due to the Kryptonite lock on the project’s details. There’s been speculation that the movie’s villain could be Doomsday, a Kryptonian scientifically engineered into an intergalactic killing machine.
A source speculated that if Warners is populating the movie with members of the Justice League, Momoa could also play the Martian Manhunter, a super-powered alien trapped on Earth. Momoa, with his muscular physique, could be a fit for either character
Mamoa is a big fella at 6’4″ so he could easily go toe-to-toe with both Henry Cavill and/or Ben Affleck, who are both well over 6 feet tall as well.
The idea of Doomsday being introduced in the sequel as the villain could take the film in an entirely different direction from the original big bad rumors which had Lex Luthor being added to the Man of Steel franchise. Despite Warner Bros adding Wonder Woman to the cast just recently with Fast and the Furious star Gal Gadot being cast in the role, it’s hard to believe they’d also bring in Martian Manhunter as well given his similar powers and abilities to that of Superman.
If Warner Bros is moving towards an eventual Justice League movie, the core characters of Flash, Green Lantern and Aquaman would, at least on paper, seem like the more likely additions.
Only time will tell what role Momoa is up for or if he even ends up being cast, but he’s the latest actor attached to the film that begins shooting in early 2014.
