HBO has released a ton of new photos from the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ ahead of the the debut of the show on April 14….
It appears Winterfell will be a popular place during the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’.
On Wednesday, HBO released the first photos from ‘Game of Thrones’ season 8, which will serve as the final six episodes in the sprawling epic series that is set to return on Sunday night, April 14.
The photos feature almost all of the major characters from the season and it appears most of them take place in Winterfell, the ancestral home of House Stark, and likely the staging area for the oncoming war between the living and the army of the dead.
When we last left ‘Game of Thrones’, Daenerys Targaryen and Jon Snow were bound for Winterfell to begin plans to combat the expected invasion from the Night King and his army of the dead. Little did they know that the Night King was able to use his zombified dragon to bring down the Wall and begin his march south into Westeros.
The majority of the photos show characters in and around Winterfell including Jon and Daenerys united in one photo as well as another that appears to be Samwell Tarly in the crypt beneath Winterfell where statues honor the many fallen Starks over the centuries.
Tyrion Lannister also appears in another shot that is definitely set in Winterfell as he stands on one of the tiered decks that overlooks the courtyard. There is also a mysterious shot of Jamie Lannister that doesn’t say much about where he’s landed after he learned that his sister/lover Cersei was double crossing Daenerys with plans to bring over a group of sellswords called The Golden Company that would allow her to eradicate her enemies once this battle against the dead was finished.
Jamie left King’s Landing as winter finally arrived at the capitol at the end of the previous season of ‘Game of Thrones’. Did Jamie decide to ride north to Winterfell or did he go elsewhere?
There are also a couple of shots of Queen Cersei as she continues to plot her course to remain on the Iron Throne while also carrying a child courtesy of her brother Jamie.
Take a look at these new photos of the final season of ‘Game of Thrones’ and get ready for the season debut on Sunday night, April 14 at 9 p.m. ET on HBO.
