‘Heroes’ Returns to NBC with 13-Episode Miniseries in 2015

The popular series ‘Heroes’ will fly again in 2015 with a new series landing on NBC….

When ‘Heroes‘ debuted in 2006, it immediately became a pop culture phenomenon of how a superhero show could be done the right way on network television. The craziest thing about the show was that while comic book writers and creators were a part of the show’s production, the series featured all original characters.

The show eventually fell in the ratings and was cancelled, but now just a few years later NBC is bringing the series back to life with a new concept called ‘Heroes Reborn‘, which will be a 13 episode miniseries expected to debut in 2015.

Executive producer Tim Kring will return to the series as well, although at this point in the announcement NBC hasn’t stated anything about characters or storylines for the new show. It’s likely, however, that almost none of the original cast will return given that most of them have gone on to star in other shows that are currently airing on TV right now.

NBC president Jennifer Salke did tease that original cast members coming back is a possibility and with the show not shooting until sometime either next year or early in 2015, there’s plenty of time to get contacts in place.

“The enormous impact ‘Heroes’ had on the television landscape when it first launched in 2006 was eye-opening,” said NBC Entertainment President Jennifer Salke. “Shows with that kind of resonance don’t come around often and we thought it was time for another installment. We’re thrilled that visionary creator Tim Kring was as excited about jumping back into this show as we were and we look forward to all the new textures and layers Tim plans to add to his original concept. Until we get closer to air in 2015, the show will be appropriately shrouded in secrecy, but we won’t rule out the possibility of some of the show’s original cast members popping back in.”

Prior to the show’s launch, NBC will return to the digital format that helped push Heroes when it was originally on air. The online webisodes and features are expected to introduce a new cast of characters prior to the show’s official return in 2015
