Jared Leto will put away his Joker makeup to star in the new Spider-Man spinoff film based on Morbius the Living Vampire…
Jared Leto is the latest actor to crossover into multiple roles in different comic book feature films.
The Oscar winner has just signed on to star in the Spider-Man spinoff movie based on Morbius the Living Vampire from Sony with Daniel Espinosa attached to direct the project.
Of course, Leto already played The Joker in the DC film universe as part of the Suicide Squad movie with plans for that same character to show up in a planned Harley Quinn spinoff as well as his own stand alone feature film from Warner Bros.
That won’t stop Leto from going after this latest role where he will join the extended Spider-Man universe at Sony in addition to the upcoming Venom movie starring Tom Hardy, which comes out later this year.
Morbius is a famed character from Spider-Man’s history as Dr. Michael Morbius is a scientist who contracts a rare blood disorder, who then attempts to cure himself but the results are disastrous as his condition after the treatment is much like a vampire — he craves blood while also possessing super strength and an affliction for being in direct sunlight, although it’s not deadly to him. Morbius fought against Spider-Man for many years in the comic books before the character was somewhat transformed into an anti-hero of sorts in more recent stories.
Burk Sharpless and Matt Sazama, who worked on the new Lost in Space series for Netflix, are writing the script for the Morbius movie.
