Matt Reeves offers a few more details on his movie ‘The Batman’ along with a release date while Ben Affleck confirms his exit from the role…
Ben Affleck is no longer the Dark Knight.
On Wednesday, the release date for ‘The Batman’ was revealed along with a few new details from director Matt Reeves while Affleck officially said goodbye to his role as Bruce Wayne/Batman after portraying the famed Caped Crusader in several films for DC and Warner Bros.
‘The Batman’ — still a working title for now — will land in theaters on June 25, 2021 with Reeves directing and writing the script for the movie.
Reeves has imagined his new Batman movie as an early tale from the superhero’s career so obviously he’ll be looking to cast a younger actor in the role so along with the confirmation of the film’s release date, Affleck released a statement on Twitter confirming his exit.

As far as details about ‘The Batman’, Reeves did a separate interview with the Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday where he revealed a few new details for his plans for the highly anticipated movie. Reeves confirmed that he plans to take a ‘noir’ approach to his version of ‘The Batman’ along with creating a story that will test ‘the world’s greatest detective’ rather than turn in another typical superhero movie.
“It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale,” Reeves said. “It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been. I’d love this to be one where when we go on that journey of tracking down the criminals and trying to solve a crime, it’s going to allow his character to have an arc so that he can go through a transformation.”
Reeves hasn’t settled on a single villain but perhaps numerous villains who will ultimately oppose his version of ‘The Batman’ with casting for the movie expected to start soon.
“There will be a Rogues Gallery,” Reeves said. “The casting process will begin shortly. We’re starting to put together our battle plan. I’m doing another pass on the script and we’ll begin some long-lead stuff to start developing conceptual things.”
Reeves, who has directed two different ‘Planet of the Apes’ movies, has been quietly working on ‘The Batman’ for quite some time while also producing several other projects.
It appears ‘The Batman’ will become his sole focus in the very near future as he looks to present his take on the character when the movie comes out in 2021.
