It looks like Superman will be flying solo again with a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel reportedly in the works at Warner Bros…
The DC Extended Universe (DCEU) technically launched with Zack Snyder’s 2013 Superman film ‘Man of Steel’ but rather than producing a sequel for the film at the time, the studio quickly shifted gears towards ‘Batman V. Superman’ instead.
Now the DCEU is in full swing after both ‘Batman V. Superman’ and ‘Suicide Squad’ opened this year with Snyder back to work on ‘Justice League’, which is due out next year.
But a new report from The Wrap says that another Superman solo film is set to happen with Warner Bros. in ‘active development’ for a second ‘Man of Steel’ movie.
Not only is a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel in the works, but according to the report, it’s a ‘top priority’ for Warner Bros. currently.
Henry Cavill — who plays Superman — is already part of the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie and is also expected to appear in the sequel due out a couple of years later.
‘Man of Steel’ raked in a pretty massive box office with over $668 million earned but the film faced some critical backlash after some story points didn’t seem to jive with the Superman story told throughout the history of the character.
Snyder tried to redeem himself with ‘Batman V. Superman’ but that film also received harsh criticism as well and now he’s no longer the main man in charge of the DCEU, although he’s still directing the upcoming ‘Justice League’ movie.
While a ‘Man of Steel’ sequel appears to be in development, there’s no word if Snyder would actually be involved in this film although his commitment to the ‘Justice League’ movies might prevent him from taking time to do another Superman movie.
