The Russo brother are developing the comic book ‘Deadly Class’ as a new television series for Syfy…
The Russo brothers are really falling in love with comic book adaptations.
The sibling duo — Joe and Anthony Russo — are best known for their work in the Marvel cinematic universe where they’ve crafted up several classic films including ‘Captain America: The Winter Soldier’, ‘Captain America: Civil War’ as well as the upcoming ‘Avengers: Infinity War’ films but they are now working to develop a popular cult comic into a new television series for Syfy.
‘Deadly Class’ — created by Rick Remender with art by Wesley Craig — is being adapted into a new pilot for Syfy by the Russo brothers alongside Adam Targum, who was the show runner on ‘Banshee’ and he is expected to lead this series as well.
‘Deadly Class’ is a story set in the 1980’s following a teenage kid named Marcus Lopez, who is inducted into King’s Dominion High School for the Deadly Arts — an institute of higher learning where mobsters and crime lords send the next generation of assassins to be trained.
As of now, ‘Deadly Class’ has just been ordered to pilot but with the muscle behind this series it’s tough to see Syfy not at least giving this show a chance. Syfy has been adding several new series to its lineup this year including ‘Nightflyers’, based on the novella by George R.R. Martin as well as the upcoming Superman prequel called ‘Krypton.
Syfy has also ordered up pilots for a ‘Tremors’ reboot based on the cult classic film series as well as a television adaptation of ‘The Purge’ from the series of horror films released in recent years.
