San Diego Comic Con will have a virtual convention this year due to the coronavirus pandemic but don’t expect a lot of interaction with the panels…
For the first time in the 50 year history of the legendary convention, San Diego Comic Con will not take place in July after postponing the show due to the ongoing coronavirus pandemic.
In the wake of the convention being cancelled, organizers behind Comic Con decided to launch a “virtual” Comic Con experience with online panels as well as exhibitors still being able to sell their products just like they would normally do at the San Diego Convention Center.
A number of studios have committed to panels for the Comic Con @ Home experience including “The Walking Dead,” “Fear the Walking Dead” and a “Constantine” reunion that will feature Keanu Reeves. Unfortunately it appears there will be little to no interaction with any of these panels as it was revealed on Monday that almost all of the material provided for Comic Con @ Home will be entirely pre-recorded.
Comic Con representatives initially told The Wrap that they don’t “anticipate anything live” but there may still be some elements of the show that will be considered live.
When it comes to the 300 to 400 online panels that are planned for the Comic Con @ Home experience, those will be pre-recorded before the convention kicks off on July 23 with videos airing on the official Comic Con YouTube page, which you can find here. While the panels being pre-recorded certainly shuts down any possibility of interaction with the casts and crews appearing at Comic Con, many studios have already started asking fans on social media for questions to ask during their respective panels.
A number of studios have committed to presentations for Comic Con @ Home, although it’s not expected to feature the massive rollouts that typically debut at the annual convention. Programming scheduled for the show will begin rolling out later this week with the full Comic Con @ Home.
We will have full coverage of the convention, the exclusives and the panels on Nerdcore Movement starting the week of July 23!
