Star Wars Episode VIII under the guidance of director Rian Johnson has officially kicked off filming….
Unlike Star Wars: The Force Awakens, it appears Star Wars Episode VIII is going to reveal Luke Skywalker very early on, at least judging by the first day of filming.
Production kicked off on Star Wars Episode VIII on Tuesday with a video being released showing a brief glimpse into the continued meeting between Rey and Luke Skywalker that closed Star Wars: The Force Awakens.

Star Wars Episode VIII is being written and directed by Rian Johnson, who is the man behind the film Looper, and returning cast members include Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, Adam Driver, Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Lupita Nyong’o, Domhnall Gleeson, Anthony Daniels, Gwendoline Christie, and Andy Serkis.
The new cast members joining the Star Wars universe include Benicio Del Toro and Laura Dern as well as newcomer Kelly Marie Tran.
Star Wars Episode VIII will land in theaters on December 15, 2017 with principal filming taking place at Pinewood Studios in London.
