The zombie powerhouse pulled in a staggering 16.1 million viewers for the season 4 debut on Sunday night, shattering a previous high from the season 3 finale that pulled in 12.4 million viewers.
Season after season, The Walking Dead has proven to be a ratings juggernaut for AMC, but the numbers the show continues to pull puts it in races with network television shows and that’s just not supposed to happen with a cable offering.
To put that in context for AMC — the recent finale of Breaking Bad, which was also a ratings record for the series drew in 10.4 million viewers as fans said goodbye to Walter White and company.
The show also raked in 10.4 million viewers in the coveted 18-49 demographic.
Talking Dead, the post show for The Walking Dead, also managed to secure 5.1 million viewers, which is another record setting moment for the AMC program.
