Scalped, which is regarded as one of the most highly acclaimed comics of all time, has been picked up as a pilot order at WGN America…
WGN America has just landed one of the most coveted comic book to TV projects in quite some time.
Scalped — based on the 60-issue crime saga by Jason Aaron and RM Guera — has been optioned as a pilot order for TV at WGN America with DC chief Geoff Johns attached as an executive producer.
During the run of the comic from 2007 to 2012, Scalped was often times compared to The Sopranos in terms of story, plot and character development and yes, it really was that good.
Scalped follows Dashiell Bad Horse, a Native American who returns home to his reservation after 15 years away and immediately gets mixed up with the unscrupulous Lincoln Red Crow, who is the president of the tribal council and corrupt sheriff over the entire area. Bad Horse ends up in Red Crow’s employ, but it’s later revealed that he’s actually an undercover FBI agent sent in to gather evidence against a 30 year old crime where two FBI agents lost their lives.
Banshee‘s Doug Jung has been hired to pen the script for the pilot and according to reports, WGN America is looking at an all Native American cast for the show.
If the pilot is half as good as the comic book, this will be a can’t miss show assuming WGN America picks it up to series
