A first look at “Stranger Things” season 4 arrived this week with a teaser video featuring the surprising return of a past character from season 1…

“Eleven … are you listening?”

The first look at “Stranger Things” season 4 has arrived with a teaser video that seems to hint at the potential return of a character who hasn’t been seen since the first season.

The new video features a group of children playing games in a room, which appears to be the Hawkins National Laboratory, and that’s when we see the return fo Dr. Martin Brenner (Matthew Modine), who hasn’t been seen since it appeared a Demogorgon killed him back in season 1.

The children all refer to him as “Papa,” which is the same title Eleven had for him before she was able to make her escape from the facility. After the chilling words from Dr. Brenner at the end of the teaser, we see a set of eyes that belong to Eleven herself, which hints at this entire scenario taking place in a dream sequence from the past.

That said, there have been plenty of hints that Dr. Brenner might return after there was no sign of his body at the end of “Stranger Things” season 1 not to mention a rumor perpetuated by other kids who escaped his villainous grasp when Eleven connected with them in season 2.

It remains to be seen how much of a part Dr. Brenner might or might not play during “Stranger Things” season 4, but it certainly seems to tease his return in some form or fashion.

The upcoming season is still in production after delays in filming were caused by the COVID-19 pandemic.

While not much is known about “Stranger Things” season 4, we do know that Jim Hopper will return after he was taken prisoner and shipped off to Russia, which is where he will be found when the new episodes debut. We also know that “Stranger Things” season 4 will venture away from Hawkins, Indiana for the first time after Joyce Byers decided to move her family to Indianapolis and she ended up taking Eleven with her.

Stay tuned for more information on “Stranger Things” season 4 as it becomes available but for now take a look at the new trailer!
