The first look at “The Flash” has finally arrived with Michael Keaton officially returning as Batman as well as Michael Shannon reprising his role as General Zod…
The DC Universe will change forever with the release of “The Flash” on June 16 and the first trailer for the highly anticipated film has finally arrived.
Debuting during The Super Bowl on Sunday, “The Flash” — directed by Andy Muschietti, who is best known for his work on “It” — will reintroduce Ezra Miller as Barry Allen-The Flash as he attempts to change the timeline to save his mother, who was murdered when he was just a boy.
New DC co-CEO James Gunn has remarked that “The Flash” serves as a total reset for the DCU now that he’s taken over storytelling duties for the studio but it remains to be seen how many of these characters or actors will stick around for the future.
Of course, the biggest reveal during the new trailer was Michael Keaton returning as Batman — a role he hasn’t played since 1992’s “Batman Returns.” Keaton’s version of Batman is retired in the world where Barry Allen arrives but he agrees to help the Scarlet Speedster, especially after a global threat arrives named General Zod — a surprising return from Michael Shannon for the character he played in “Man of Steel” — except this time there’s one major problem.
Due to Barry messing with the timeline, he’s stopped the creation of metahumans so there’s nobody to stop Zod from conquering Earth and now he has to find a way to fix his mistake or the world will never bee the same again. Here’s the full synopsis for the plot from Warner Bros.:
“Worlds collide in “The Flash” when Barry uses his superpowers to travel back in time in order to change the events of the past. But when his attempt to save his family inadvertently alters the future, Barry becomes trapped in a reality in which General Zod has returned, threatening annihilation, and there are no Super Heroes to turn to. That is, unless Barry can coax a very different Batman out of retirement and rescue an imprisoned Kryptonian… albeit not the one he’s looking for. Ultimately, to save the world that he is in and return to the future that he knows, Barry’s only hope is to race for his life. But will making the ultimate sacrifice be enough to reset the universe?”
The trailer also features Ben Affleck returning as Bruce Wayne as he offers Barry some advice when he’s initially contemplating this risky move to travel back in time. We also get a first look at Sasha Calle as the new Supergirl — the Kryptonian that Barry and Bruce Wayne decide to rescue to help them fight back against General Zod.
